NEW DELHI: The Mobile World Congress 2018 has kicked off in Barcelona, Spain and Samsung has marked the occasion with launch of its flagship smartphones — Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor Snapdragon 845 and runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. Along with this, the smartphones come with better and redesigned camera capabilities. We compared the Galaxy S9 with anniversary edition iPhone X to see how the two smartphones compare against each other.
Display is the key element of the Samsung Galaxy S9. The smartphone comes with a 5.8-inch Quad HD + Curved Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is edge-to-edge and near less bezels. The screen comes with adaptive contrast which promises to offer better visibility under direct sunlight.
Apple iPhone X on the other hand, features a 5.8-inch Super Retina display. The display comes with Dolby Vision and HDR10 and True Tone technology which adjusts the white balance of the display to match the surrounding light.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 processor. This is the latest processor from the house of the America chipset manufacturer.
The Apple iPhone X is powered by the company’s own A11 Bionic chipset which the company claims is 70% faster as compared to the old A10 Fusion processor.
Samsung Galaxy S9 runs the latest Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box, while the Apple iPhone X runs iOS 11.
RAM and storage
The Samsung flagship comes with 4GB of RAM and offers three storage version — 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The users can further expand the storage up to 400GB by installing a microSD card.
The company has not revealed the RAM capacity of the iPhone X, but the device comes in to storage variants — 64GB and 256GB. There is no support for microSD card so the users cannot expand the storage.
At the time of the launch, the company announced that they have worked a lot on the camera of the smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S9 sports a Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP autofocus rear camera with OIS and F1.5/F2.4 aperture. The front of the smartphone houses an 8MP selfie camera with aperture f/1.7. The company adds that the handset is capable of recording better slow motion videos and capture low light photos.
The Apple iPhone X redesigned dual 12-megapixel rear camera system with dual optical image stabilisation. The ƒ/1.8 aperture on the wide-angle camera joins an improved ƒ/2.4 aperture on the telephoto camera for better photos and videos. There is also a secondary 7MP camera for selfies.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 houses 3,000 mAh battery with fast wireless charging support. On the other hand, the Apple iPhone X also comes with wireless charging support powered by Qi.
Samsung Galaxy S9 is priced at $720 (roughly Rs 46,700), while the Apple iPhone X is available at a starting price tag of Rs 83,499.
