Xiaomi has expanded its line of Mi smartphone series with the launch of the much-anticipated smartphone, the Mi 6X. Although the handset has been launched in China, it has garnered a lot of popularity over past few weeks as the device may be launched as the Mi A2 in India. For your reference, last year’s Mi 5X was launched as Mi A1 in India running stock Android. The smartphone’s China price and specifications are out. So in case you missed all the action, here are some pointers on its expected in India price, possible competitors and the key specifications.
May launch as Mi A2 in India
Xiaomi Mi 6X might just launch as the Mi A2 in India. This comes looking at last year’s strategy by the firm wherein it launched the Mi 5X as the Mi A1 in India. There is no confirmation on this though.
Xiaomi Mi 6X (Mi A2) expected India price
Taking a guess at the upcoming Mi A2 is a long shot for now, given that Xiaomi itself has not yet dropped any teaser about the particular smartphone model or its arrival in India. However, since the Mi A1 was launched in the country at Rs 14,999, expect the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) to cost more if not the same.
Moto, Honor and some other Chinese brands as competitors
Given the specifications and the expected price bracket, some of the arch rivals of the Mi A2 could be the Moto G5s Plus (or G6), Honor View 10 and maybe some of the handsets from Vivo and Oppo.
May run stock Android OS like the Mi A1
Like it was the case of Mi A1, the Mi A2 may also run stock Android OS, which in this case could be Android 8.1 Oreo. The Mi 6X, which just launched in China, runs MIUI 9.5 base on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Possible launch date
No word is there for the possible launch date or time frame for the Mi A2. The Mi A1 was launched in September last year, so its successor too could come around the same time.
The smartphone is likely to feature a 5.9-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) resolution. The handset, unlike the predecessor, sports an 18:9 aspect ratio display.
Design largely stays the same
The design of the Mi A2 or the Mi 6X is almost the same as the Mi 5X. The smartphone, except for a larger screen, has the same back panel with dual rear camera setup and a fingerprint sensor.
The processor gets an upgrade
The handset processor has been upgraded to Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. This is more efficient and powerful than the Mi A1’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.
Three RAM and storage variants
The Mi 6X or the Mi A2 has been launched in three variants in China. The device comes in 4GB+32GB variant, 6GB+64GB variant and 6GB+128GB variant. It is not for sure which of these models will arrive in India under the Mi A2 moniker.
Camera sensors get better this time
The camera too has been upgraded. The Mi 6X or Mi A2 sports dual rear cameras with 20MP Sony IMX376 and 2MP Sony IMX486 sensor. At the front there is a 20MP Sony IMX486 sensor.
Battery becomes efficient
Although the Xiaomi Mi 6X sports a 3010mAh battery, the Indian predecessor (Mi A1) came with 3080mAh battery. But we believe the battery is more efficient this time given the efficient processor.
